What *I* would do if I somehow got elected, and survived all the subsequent assassination attempts, as President of the United States of America. -[Including: radical changes, random thoughts, and driving tips.]-
Wind energy. That's renewable. Problem is those turbines are damn expensive. It can take years to decades break even on these (ie europe) Also, if non-renewable energy sources drop in price the effective price of wind energy is much higher. In addition, if it hasn't been very windy the turbines are not even paying for themselves yet they still require maintenence and upkeep. This is where subsidies come into effect. This would mean using tax monies to offset the much higher cost of the "renewable" energy so that your average citizen or business can use the power. This leads to a government controlled energy situation. History will show you that usually when govt. steps in a takes over a section of the private sector bad things happen. (Look at Canada's health care system. It is not good and they don't have that many people to care for even.) The reality is that a renewable energy source has to make ecocomic sense for it to be realistic. There would be less pollution I guess and if you believe in global warming then you would percieve this as a benfit and I think at some point it becomes worth the trade off.
